Yoshinori Hagiwara – Contemporary Mashiko Pottery
This handcrafted round mug is created by Mashiko-based ceramic artist Yoshinori Hagiwara, using clay he personally refines from raw soil collected on the embankment of his own garden. The glaze is made from iron-rich earth gathered from the same land, giving the surface its deep, natural tones and subtle variations.
Each mug is wood-fired in a traditional noborigama (climbing kiln), a demanding firing method that brings out rich textures, soft ash effects, and an organic depth unique to Mashiko pottery. While the forms vary slightly, all pieces in this collection are fired using the same materials and process, offering a cohesive yet individual character.
