Tomoo Hamada is a renowned Mashiko pottery artist and the third-generation successor of the Hamada family, one of Japan’s most celebrated ceramic lineages. As the grandson of Living National Treasure Shoji Hamada, Tomoo continues the legacy of the Mingei folk craft movement while bringing his own contemporary sensibility to traditional Mashiko pottery. His works are known for their bold forms, natural glazes, and expressive brushwork, often featuring ash, persimmon, and tenmoku-style finishes that highlight the beauty of Mashiko clay. Every piece is wheel-thrown and wood-fired in the historic Noborigama kiln, reflecting a balance of tradition, craftsmanship, and modern artistry.
