Suzugami from Syouryu

"syouryu" is the in-house brand of Shimatani Syouryu Koubou, founded in 1909. The workshop employs three of the fewer than ten master craftsmen in Japan who specialize in making "orin" (Buddhist altar bells) using the traditional "hammering" technique. This method involves meticulously hammering metal sheets by hand, resulting in beautifully resonant orin.

Shimatani Syouryu Koubou is driven by the philosophy of "creating new products that reflect the spirit of Takaoka, embody the skills of metalworking artisans, and can be used in everyday life." This philosophy led to the creation of a new brand and product line, one of which is "Suzugami."

"Suzugami," as the name suggests, is a new tin product that is as thin and flexible as paper. By repeatedly hammering rolled tin sheets, not only are unique patterns created, but the material is also given the strength to withstand repeated bending while maintaining its shape. This product exemplifies the expertise of metalworking artisans. Enjoy the surprising sensation of "Suzugami," a metal that bends smoothly and freely.
At Kits, we offer Suzugami in various sizes: 11cm, 13cm, 18cm, and 24cm squares, as well as incense holders. Suzugami can be used in various ways, such as serving dishes, accessory plates, or flower vases. Additionally, we provide two types of "Koro," which can be used to restore bent Suzugami to its original shape or to create gentle curves. Enjoy these versatile products together.

These are available at our shop and online, please come and see them!
