About Kouungama
Kouungama opened in 1992.
The kiln produces mainly bowls, plates, teacups, and other tableware using the Karatsu method. They strive to create “Takeo ceramic ware to accompany daily life” by combining simple earthenware “Karatsu” with gorgeous features such as overglaze enamels.
Originally, most of the pottery made in the Takeo area had roots in Karatsu-yaki (ware), and there was no such thing as “Takeo ware “. However, they have inherited the techniques of Karatsu ware and added their own original overglaze enamels to it.
They call it “Takeo Ancient Karatsu Ware “.
Karatsu-yaki From Saga, Japan
Karatsu-yaki(ware) is a type of Japanese pottery known for its rustic, earthy aesthetic. Handmade by skilled artisans in the city of Karatsu, each piece is unique and carries a rich history.
