Yoshinori Hagiwara – Contemporary Mashiko Pottery
This handcrafted vase is created by Mashiko-based ceramic artist Yoshinori Hagiwara, using clay refined by hand from raw earth collected on the embankment of his own garden. The clay is carefully water-levigated, then finished with an iron-rich glaze made from locally sourced soil, also gathered from his property.
Fired in a traditional noborigama (climbing kiln), the piece reveals natural variations in tone and surface that are unique to wood firing. While each vessel differs slightly in form, all pieces in this release were produced using the same materials and firing method, forming a cohesive body of work.
Rooted deeply in place and process, this vase embodies the quiet strength and authenticity of Mashiko pottery, making it suitable for both floral display and contemplative interior settings.
