Shoji paper is a tough, translucent paper made of wood fibers. The fibers of washi paper are longer than printing paper, giving it durability despite its thinness and ensuring its longevity. These days, it is used in the repair of cultural assets all over the world, with its strength said to last for 1000 years or more. Washi papermaking began in Mino in the ancient Nara era. Although the culture of washi papermaking exists all over Japan, washi paper from Mino is praised for its quality and durability, earning the shogunate’s endorsement during the Edo era, and it has become a firm favorite.

<About Matsuhisa Eisuke Kamiten>

Matsuhisa Eisuke Kamiten was established as a wholesaler by Eisuke Matsuhisa the 2nd in 1876, and we have been selling Mino Washi paper since then. Currently we carry handmade washi paper and machine-made washi paper, as well as socks, towels and paper threads. We have also been processing washi paper materials for medical use, vacuum bags and so on. In recent years, the demand for paper threads and paper thread products has been increasing, and we are planning to continuously develop new products.
